Hi everyone,
Today:
Night of the Senses is Now On Sale! More about that in a seperate post :)
Secret Service recieved a four star review from Rainbow Reviews. The review was written by Fox, who said:
"...this story is very entertaining and romantic."
You can read the rest of it here.
Tuesday:
I'm on Writer's Evolution blog talking about Interruptions.
Wednesday:
I'm still deciding my word of the week. I'm going for something smaller and more specific this time around. Maybe actually something I can fit into a reasonable post rather than an epic!
Thursday:
I'll be talking about "The new explictness" on the Oh, Get a Grip! blog.
Friday:
Back here for five of something :)
And that's it as far as I know.
What else should I be doing this week?
Writing:
I'd like to finish the fourth Lust bite story, so I'll have the first drafts of all the stories in the mini collection by the end of the month.
Editing:
Ideally I'd like to be able to submit the second Lust bite story by the end of the month too. Not sure if that's possible, so I'll set my aim at the story being as close to submission standard as possible by then.
Have a good week everyone.

Secret Sevice - Available Now!

Secret Service is now on Sale! Sooooo Excited. It's a M/m BDSM title and it's part of Total-e-bound's My Secret Valentine Collection.
Here's the blurb:
What’s more important, their love for each other or their differing attitudes to kinky sex?
Alistair has made it very clear he isn’t into anything even vaguely kinky.
Sheridan knew he was in love with him the day he found that out, and then decided to stay with him anyway. Unable to ease his desire to serve at home, Sheridan volunteers at a club where he can secretly serve the patrons, and feed his submission, without upsetting Alistair by revealing that side of his personality to him.
When chance drags Alistair into that same club on Valentines weekend, Sheridan’s leather mask can’t keep his secret safe any longer. With his desire to serve out in the open, it’s not long before other secrets start to come out and they both have to make a choice.
Does Sheridan give up on ever being allowed to submit to the man he loves, or does Alistair take the risk of becoming the master his love has always wanted?
And here's a quick excerpt:
Sheridan Haswell put a final touch of red paint to the heart on his left bicep. Looking himself over in the mirror, he set his paintbrush aside and straightened the red leather heart covering his cock. The only thing he had left to put on was the mask. He frowned at the strip of red leather, but there was no avoiding it.
It wouldn’t do to allow his secret indulgence to become public knowledge—for his little hobby to come to Alistair’s attention. Sheridan looked back to his reflection and let his gaze slip out of focus so he could imagine his boyfriend standing next to him, looking into the same glass.
Alistair was as fair haired as he himself was dark. They’d had always complimented each other that way. Perhaps Alistair, with his several inches of extra height and his additional weight of muscle, would look good with anyone. Sheridan still liked to think they looked particularly good together. They looked right. The way a couple should look.
He smiled at the imagined reflection. Then his smile began to fade away as his expression turned more serious. Sheridan knelt down in front of the mirror, letting the mental image of Alistair continue to stand over him—tall and proud, and undeniably dominant.
Lifting his hand to his neck, Sheridan traced the line of the red leather around his throat. For just a few perfect seconds, he let himself enjoy a fantasy that he knew would never be his reality. He let himself pretend the collar around his neck belonged to Alistair, that he belonged to Alistair. For just a little while, he indulged himself with the idea that his boyfriend just might, at any point in the future, want to be his master.
Sheridan squeezed his eyes shut very tight. He knew that wouldn’t happen. He’d resigned himself to the fact months ago. But still…
When he opened his eyes again the house collar stared back at him. The vivid red leather quickly remind him who he was, where he was, and exactly why he was dressed up like a Valentine card gone wrong.
While he wore that collar he belonged to the house—to the club who owned the bar he was about to walk into. As for what he was and who he was? That was simple.
Sheridan Haswell was a born submissive, and that night he was there to serve.

Secret Service: Cover Art

The cover art came through yesterday. I am sooooo pleased with it!
The fantastic cover artist is Natalie Winters.
As you can see from the bottom of the cover, Secret Service is part of TEB's My Secret Valentine Collection. It's going to be released February 9th and it's a m/m BDSM.
I've posted the blurb before, but here it is again if you missed it:

Five things... about five different projects
Okay, it's a bit of a mish mash of a post today. I've recieved different bits of news for a few different stories, so I thought I would share them all at the same time.
1. Between Tooth and Paw - it's been accepted for the Caught in the Middle anthology, to be released on May 11th 2009. Very excited about that.
2. Secret Service - part of the My Secret Valentine Collection - now has cover art! It's stunning - it's also on my other computer. I'll drop it into a seperate post later on.
3. In the Heat of the Momment - the one I told you all I wasn't writing any more. Well, I'm back with it again. Possibly for a call or maybe for a stand alone short or something else if the call doesn't pan out.
4. The Gift - part of the Christmas Spirits collection - four days until it comes out and counting down all the time. Very excited about that. Enough said there.
5. This one's not actually about a book I'm writing. But I forgot to post about it before, so I'll do it now before I forget again.
TEB has a competition running. The cover art is the m/f version of the Christmas Spirits cover art I've got for The Gift, so I'm adopting it on that rather vague basis. The picture below is the link. Click on it - really it couldn't be easier to enter!

Secret Service Blurb
Hi everyone,
Secret Service has just been accepted. It will be released as one of Total-e-bound's Secret Valentines stories on February 9th 2009.
It's a m/m BDSM novella.
Here's the blurb:

Monday Memo: Re-write the damn thing!
Okay, time to get back up to date now.
Secret Service is finally gone. It was a bit of a bugger - I think I only managed to save about 3000 from my first draft, but the re-writes finally paid off once I stopped trying to fix something that would never work and just wrote most of it again from scratch. I also re-wrote the synopsis - only the first paragraph or two were accurate once I finished the re-write!
It's with my editor now, so I have my fingers crossed for it.
The Stroke of Twelve verdict is in. It didn't make it into the anthology I was originally aiming for (it didn't fit the tone set by the other stories in it), but TEB still liked it and I was offered a contract for it as a stand alone. It's now going to be extended into a novel length story and it's going to slip into my Perfect Timing series in place of Time Out, which is going to form the basis for a whole new series I have planed :)
I'm actually quite pleased. Don't get me wrong, I'd have loved to have been in the anthology, but I'm also really existed about extending the story and giving it room to grow into something a lot better than it is right now.
A Model Submissive - my nano project is slightly behind schedule. I should have been on 15k last night, I was on 14k. Hoping to catch up a bit tonight.
Okay... I think that's it. All up to date :)
Except one other announcement - there's a chat tonight with Total-e-bound authors on Night Owl Romance. It starts at 8 pm EST and runs to 10 pm EST. In British currancy, I think that translates to 1-3 am tomorrow morning.
I'll certainly be there at the start, and hopefully until quite a way through it.
Drop by if you can.

Monday Memo: Why?
Memo: Why a character does something is just as important as what that character does.
Character motivations have been a big thing for me over the last couple of weeks. I have one character that really can't settle on a good reason why he's doing the things he's doing. His personality keeps flickering around and he just won't get with the plan at all.
I know what he's going to do.
I've written what he's going to do.
But I can't finish the damn story until he admits defeat and just confesses why he's doing these things.
I've come to the conclusion that some things just have to be explained or they can't happen in a story. If a character says he dislikes something - not just isn't in the mood for it, but hates it on a really primal level - the reader needs to know why.
Come to that, the writer needs to know why to.
Alister, as he informs everyone very early on in the story, doesn't approve of kink. Okay - fair enough, not everyone does.
But the problem is, he keeps changing his mind about why he doesn't like it. Doesn't understand it? Thinks he understands it but has it all wrong? A bad experience in the past?
He's gone through every possible reason and some I didn't even know existed until I started writing this story - and I've played along and re-written the story for each new theory he's come up with.
It's a 20k story and I must have written about 50k on it so far.
Yesterday, four days before I want to send the story to my editor, he hit on a new theory.
It sounds plausible. It just might work. He might stick to this theory for more than two minutes.
I'm currently re-writing the last chapter to see how it works out for him this way.
Wish me luck people.
.....
Random bit of other news:
My Nano novel - A Model Submissive is on 4000 words as of last night - that characters in that are cooperating nicely.

Wondering about... deadlines
Very short post because it's almost midnight and I'm knackered.
I've always liked deadlines. If I just say I want to do something at some point it won't get done. If, on the other hand, I say I'm going to do it by the end of the month, I've got a much better chance.
The Stroke of Twelve went off today - my personal deadline for when I wanted to send one of the possible anthology stories off. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for it.
That also means I've started editing Secret Service ready for my next deadline - November 5th.
I'm also hoping to finish Between Tooth and Paw by the end of the month.
Deadlines are wonderful things when they work.
When they don't work they're a bit of a bugger, but over all I'm strongly in favour of them.
What does everyone else think?
Deadlines: love them or hate them?

Wondering about... free stories
I've got an idea. It goes something like this...
I'd ask people to send me prompts which could act as starting points for short stories. It could be anything from a photo, to a phrase, or a kink, or a location or anything else.
Everyone who sends a prompt in is then entered into a random draw to win a copy of whatever story I've got coming out that month. (Imagine for a moment that I have something released and on sale at this point, lol.)
Then, every Friday I would pick one prompt from all those sent in and post a story based on it - either on my blog or my website. (Haven't decided which yet.)
It could be called Free Friction Friday, or something like that.
So, what do you think?
Good idea? Bad idea? Doesn't make the slightest amount of sense?
I'm not sure which of the above catagories it fits into either, but it's an idea that's been playing around in the back of my mind for quite a while now, so I might give it a go soon.
...
Other news -
I'm on track to finish the first draft of The Stroke of Twelve (Possible Anthology submission) by the end of the day.
I'm not doing any editing at the moment, because all my energy is going into the writing, but I'll be back editing tomorrow - working on Secret Service (Another possible Anthology submission)

Memo: My coherant Plan
Monday Memo: There is a coherent plan in the universe, though I don't know what it's a plan for.
I shouldn't have told you I have the whole plan for this year worked out last week. It was an accurate statement at the time of print. That lasted about five minutes after I sent off the blog post.
My publication schedule changed a bit last week. Which means the titles I've had accepted for 2009 will come out more slowly. That means I actually have a bit more time before I need to send the next one in my own series off. That is why I've set The Morning After and All Grown Up aside for a little while.
I'm now throwing myself head first into anthology submissions for the next few weeks.
I started one last Thursday and finished the first draft yesterday. It's called Secret Service. It was a lot of fun to write. Even though the main characters insisted on switching their names around half way through the story. Sheridan wanted to be called Alistair and Alistair wanted to be called Sheridan. In the end I had to let them have their way, just to shut them up. It's a male/male BDSM novella.
I'm starting the next one today. It's called The Stroke of Twelve. It's another male/male BDSM. The characters don't have names yet.
What else do I have to tell you?
Okay, I'm sure this isn't going to be even vaguely exciting news for anyone else, but if you look here you will notice that the coming soon section now runs up to December 1st. My first release, The Gift, is due out on December 8th. That means either next week, or the week after if I'm the third title for that particular Monday, I'll have something listed in the coming soon section.
You have no idea how much that makes me grin :)
Off to get some work done now.
Happy monday everyone :)
